Fresh Djed Spence claim made as Nottingham Forest handed transfer boost

Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough "remain apart" in their valuations of Nottingham Forest target Djed Spence.

The right-back impressed on loan with the Reds last season, playing a pivotal role in helping Steve Cooper's side earn promotion to the Premier League. Spence appeared 46 times for Forest, scoring five and assisting five, and formed a strong partnership with Brennan Johnson on the right wing.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move to sign the England Under-21 international, with reports this week claiming that 'further talks' will take place. Boro are said to want £15 million this summer, but Antonio Conte's side are only prepared to pay around £10 million.

Whilst Forest have eyed up a couple of alternatives this summer in Liverpool's Neco Williams and Manchester City's Issa Kabor, they have been a potential boost in their bid to re-sign Spence after talks between Boro and Spurs.

According to Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas, the two parties "remain apart in their valuations" of the 21-year-old after discussions in London yesterday. The reporter added that there remains no agreement and that Tottenham are "ready to move on" if a deal fails to be struck.

This could open the door for Cooper's men to swoop in and land Spence ahead of the start of the 2022/23 season, for the right price. Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder hinted a Premier League move for the wing-back.

He told BBC Radio Tees Sport: "Djed has made it clear that he wants to go play in the Premier League, he's earned that opportunity which he has done. You cannot get away from the fact that he's had an incredible season and with that comes interest but it has to be at that right price.

"While we'll not pay over the odds, we as a football club have got to set a fair and reasonable price for that to happen. I'm confident all three parties will get round the table and get this sorted out. If that happens then I'm sure we'll all walk away happy with the deal."
