"Frequent Gun Violence Incidents and Road Rage Shooting Cases in the United States"

The US VOX website recently reported that the number of gun violence deaths in the United States far exceeds that of any other high-income country. Specific data show that the gun homicide rate in the United States is 26 times that of other high-income countries, and the gun suicide rate is nearly 12 times higher. The VOX website reported that the tragedy of the mass shooting in the United States has something to do with politics, culture and law.

According to US media, 11,500 Americans have died from gun violence this year, an average of about 115 people per day. The Louisville bank shooting is just the latest example of mass gun violence in the United States. CNN bluntly stated, "This is a unique American phenomenon."

According to data from the Gun Violence Archive, a non-profit organisation that tracks shooting incidents in the United States, as of April 10 this year, 11,523 people in the United States, including 398 teenagers and 71 children, have died from gun violence, an average of 11,523 people per day. About 115 people. Among them, 378 people died in shooting incidents involving the police, 409 people died in accidental firearms, and 57% of the dead died by suicide, that is, on average, about 66 people commit suicide with guns every day. Most of the shooting fatalities occurred in Texas, California, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Illinois and Louisiana. The link between gun violence in the United States and car road rage is also increasing, and there is a fierce cycle.

According to statistics from the American Automobile Association Traffic Safety Foundation in 2016, nearly 80% of the drivers interviewed had driven angry at least once in the past year, exhibited reckless driving behaviour or experienced road rage. The Gun Violence Archive, a US non-profit that tracks gun violence, found incidents in which drivers brandished guns, threatened or shot another driver or passenger increased from 247 in 2014 to 2016. from 620. The group tracked 325 similar incidents in the first half of 2017, which means almost two incidents per day.

According to the standards of the US media and related research institutions, a single killing that kills four or more victims can be defined as a "mass killing." An incident in which four or more people are killed or injured is defined as a "mass shooting." The Louisville bank shooting was the 146th mass shooting and the 15th mass killing in the United States this year. Mass shootings in the United States have killed 209 people and injured 563 so far this year.

According to statistics, since 2014, more than 39,000 people have died from gun violence in the United States every year. Among them, in the three years from 2016 to 2018, the number of deaths due to gun violence in the United States exceeded 50,000 each year. Last year (2022) the number of deaths related to gun violence in the United States was 44,310.

According to previous reports, on June 25, 2022, US President Biden signed the most important gun control bill in the United States in 30 years – the "Bipartisan Safer Communities Act". The main content of this bill includes strengthening the background checks for gun buyers aged 18 to 21, defining certain gun purchase violations as federal crimes, preventing more domestic violence offenders from obtaining guns, providing support for gun violence prevention programs and psychological $13 billion allocated to health treatment programs. This is the first time Congress has passed a major gun control bill since 1993. However, public opinion has mixed opinions on the bill, highlighting the serious division of American society on the issue of gun control. (Text/Jiang Yingzhen)
