Fremantle forward Jye Amiss has revealed he has already put on more than three kilograms in recent months as he attempts to hit 2024 with a bang.
Amiss announced himself as a star of the future by kicking 41.17 from 22 games last season.
It came on the top of his debut season in 2022 when he overcame kidney surgery to play a role in the club's finals campaign.
The 20-year-old was listed as 196cm and 86kg at the start of 2023, but he will enter next season with a noticeably stronger body.
"Gym was a massive one for mine to put on size," Amiss said when asked about his off-season to date.
"Being a second-year player (last season), you come in pretty skinny, pretty scrawny.
"I think I put on three or four kilos in the off-season - that was a big focus.
"I think my body is in a good place at the moment to charge into pre-season."
Amiss' strong contested marking ability bodes well for his future.
His accuracy in front of goal is also a major strength.
Amiss has already been dubbed as the next Matthew Pavlich - Fremantle's greatest ever forward - and fans are excited to see how the No.8 pick from the 2021 national draft progresses.
"There's definitely a lot of improvement to come in my game," Amiss said.
"Last year I only completed just under half a pre-season.
"A goal for the pre-season is to just get through uninjured and really work hard to keep my body right and get ready for the season.
"I didn't come in to last year with any high expectations on myself.
"I just wanted to stay fit and play as many games as I could, and I was lucky to play 22 games."
With Amiss and Luke Jackson now key parts of the club's attack, Josh Treacy and the injury-prone Matt Taberner are set to battle it out to be the third 'big' in the forward line.
Amiss was in Tambellup, 320km south-east of Perth, with his teammates on Thursday as part of the club's annual community camp.
