Liverpool have been linked for plenty of midfielders over the course of the summer transfer window.
The Reds are currently without a number of players in the middle of the park due to injury. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita are all sidelined, while players in other positions are also unavailable.
Jurgen Klopp admitted last week that Liverpool may “go for a midfielder” before the transfer window closes on Thursday. This has led to speculation ramping up over a possible new addition to the Reds squad.

Here, we take a look at the midfielders who have been linked with a move to Liverpool and the rumoured situation for each one.
Frenkie de Jong
Liverpool are being linked with a move for the Barcelona midfielder this summer. According to a report in El Nacional , Liverpool were preparing to make a bid to sign De Jong before this week’s deadline.
It has been claimed that Liverpool are prepared to make a bid to bring De Jong to Anfield. The report states that the Reds are prepared to make an offer worth a little over £52million plus an additional £7.5m in add-ons, totalling close to £60m in all.
De Jong has been spotted arriving at a Barcelona airport today, apparently to board a flight bound for the UK. But according to ESPN, Barcelona have allowed their players to have a couple of days off - and De Jong’s trip to London is not transfer related.
Chelsea and Manchester United have also been heavily-linked to De Jong, with Chelsea seen as frontrunners should he leave Barca.
Konrad Laimer
Liverpool are being linked with a move for the RB Leipzig midfielder this summer. According to German news outlet Kicker, the Reds could make a move for the Austria international.
Their report claims that, with the 25-year-old heading into the final year of his contract, a fee in the region of £25million has been quoted as a possible asking price.
All summer, Bayern Munich have been credited with an interest in Laimer. However, a report from Sky Sports Germany over the weekend has now suggested that the German champions are no longer looking at the Leipzig midfielder.
Ruben Neves
Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is another midfielder who has been linked with Liverpool. The injury crisis in the middle of the park has led to Neves being one of the players linked with a move to Anfield.
After Wolves’ draw with Newcastle on Sunday, Neves addressed the speculation around his future. He even admitted that he had expected not to be at Molineux for this season.
"Well, let’s see what happens," Neves told the Times . "I try to focus 100 per cent on my football and I had a good start to the season but we need results now. If you ask me at the end of last season I would have said to you, ‘I will leave’ but I’m still here, so we never know what’s going to happen.”
Moises Caicedo
Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo was first linked with a move to Liverpool earlier this month. Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in the Ecuador international.
Ecuadorian outlet Studio Futbol reported that Caicedo has turned down a move to Man United in favour of linking up with Klopp at Liverpool. Further reports have suggested Caicedo is a player the Reds are keeping an eye on.
Sander Berge
Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge is one of the latest players to be linked with a move to Liverpool. He was first linked with the club in 2020, after impressing in his debut season in England.
However, sources inside Anfield have indicated the Norwegian is not a current transfer target for Liverpool in this window.
Jude Bellingham
Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham has been a player who has been linked with Liverpool for a long time now. Reports have emerged in recent days that a possible ‘agreement’ has been reached for the player to move to Anfield next year.
Dortmund have been firm in their stance that Bellingham will not be leaving the club this summer. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl has not ruled out Bellingham staying at the club beyond the summer of 2023
"There is a lot of interest, I can imagine that," said Kehl. "Jude is a player who is known beyond the borders of Germany. “I hope that Jude Bellingham will stay at BVB beyond 2023. I can see he feels super comfortable with us."
Marcos Llorente
Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente is another player who has been linked with Liverpool in recent weeks. According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes , Llorente’s time with Atletico could be coming to an end in the near future.
The report states that Llorente’s stance at Atletico has changed due to a positional shift in manager Diego Simeone’s system. It has been claimed that the Spanish club could give the green light to sanction the player’s departure.
