French Police Neutralize Armed Suspect Planning Synagogue Attack

Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on worldwide threats, in Washington

French police shot and killed an armed suspect in the Normandy city of Rouen early on Friday, as reported by the Interior Ministry. The suspect was believed to be planning to set fire to a synagogue. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin confirmed the incident on social media, stating that the armed individual was 'neutralized' by national police officers.

The ministry praised the officers for their quick response and bravery in preventing a potential attack on the city's synagogue. While details surrounding the suspect and the circumstances of the incident were not immediately provided, the ministry confirmed that the suspect was shot and killed.

This incident comes amidst heightened tensions in France due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. The country, home to the largest Jewish and Muslim populations in western Europe, has seen a rise in antisemitic acts in recent times.
