Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has expressed relief at the projected outcome of Sunday’s election in France. According to an IPSOS estimate following runoff elections, the French left-wing alliance New Popular Front is expected to beat the far right in the second round of the snap parliamentary election.
Tusk took to social media to share his sentiments, stating, “In Paris enthusiasm, in Moscow disappointment, in Kyiv relief. Enough to be happy in Warsaw.” This statement reflects the positive reaction to the potential victory of the New Popular Front.
The National Rally (RN), a far-right party in France, had raised concerns about France’s aid to Ukraine. Marine Le Pen, the party’s leader, had promised that a prime minister from RN would prevent Kyiv from using French-supplied long-range weapons to target Russia. Additionally, Le Pen opposed French President Emmanuel Macron’s suggestion of deploying French troops to Ukraine.
The outcome of the election is significant not only for France but also for its international relations, particularly with Ukraine and Russia. The potential victory of the New Popular Front signals a shift in French politics and policies, which could impact diplomatic efforts in the region.
