Fremantle has sealed a trade for Melbourne ruckman Luke Jackson, delivering the Demons a strong hand of AFL draft picks in a three-way deal with GWS.
In another significant trade, Adelaide has secured forward Izak Rankine after agreeing to a deal with Gold Coast.
The Dockers gave up their top draft selection — currently pick number 13 — plus their 2023 first and second-round selections in exchange for Jackson, and picks number 44 and 67.
Pick number 44 came via GWS, which allowed Melbourne small forward Toby Bedford to seal his move to the Giants.
Melbourne is expected to quickly move on to securing Collingwood's two-time All-Australian Brodie Grundy as Jackson's replacement.
"Luke has been our number-one priority all year and obviously throughout the trade period," Dockers' head of player personnel David Walls said.
"He's got so much versatility and so much scope to improve as a player. We're really only scratching the surface with what he can do.
"He's only just turned 21, when you look at what he's doing with his relative age rating for a player in his position, he's off the charts."
Jackson requested a long-expected trade home to Western Australia last month.
The 21-year-old had said he was open to joining either Western Australia club but the Eagles never really appeared in the picture.
The number-three pick in the 2019 draft, Jackson played 52 matches for the Demons after his debut in 2020.
He teamed up with skipper Max Gawn in Melbourne's 2021 breakthrough premiership, including turning the grand final on its head with a remarkable third-quarter burst in the ruck.
His fine second season in 2021 also delivered the AFL Rising Star award, though he struggled to reach similar heights this year, when Melbourne exited the finals in straight sets.
Bedford, 22, played 18 matches for Melbourne across four seasons.
Rankine joins Crows
Rankine's move from the Suns to the Crows was made official on Monday afternoon.
He signed a three-year contract with the Crows.
In addition to gaining Rankine, the Crows receive pick 46 in the draft and a future fourth-round selection.
The Suns get pick five in the draft, as well as future third and fourth-round selections.
Rankine played 48 matches for the Suns after being drafted with pick three in 2018.
"Izak is a highly talented footballer with great foot speed, is dangerous around goal and has tremendous game sense," Crows list manager Justin Reid said.
"We are very pleased that he wants to be part of what we are building at the club."
Meanwhile, Carlton finalised a trade with Essendon that sees out-of-contract midfielder Will Setterfield join the Bombers.
The Blues received the Bombers' future fourth-round selection in exchange for Setterfield and pick number 68.
Setterfield played 55 matches for the Blues in his four seasons with the club after arriving from the Giants.
