Free weekly kids movies in outdoor cinema in Temple Bar launched by DCC

Free screenings of kid's movies will take place every Sunday in Temple Bar under a new Dublin City Council initiative.

Deputy Lord Mayor Darcy Lonergan will launch the "outdoor cinema club" for kids this morning. There will also be an array of "colourful children's characters" present at Meeting House Square for the launch.

Tickets to the screenings, which will take place on Sundays starting September 4, will be made available for free on Eventbrite from today. The movies will be shown in Meeting House Square.

Deputy Lord Mayor Darcy Lonergan said: “I am delighted to launch Dublin City Council’s ‘Outdoor Cinema Club’ which will provide a weekly programme of family film favourites, promising a fun day out for young families. This new event series will bring life back to Meeting House Square following a long spell of inactivity and builds on the growing number of family events in the city.”

The programme for ‘Outdoor Cinema Club’ is especially curated for children between 5-8 years old and 8-11 years old to enjoy. Films include Sing 2, Encanto, Clifford the Big Red Dog and The Greatest Showman.

It will also feature Irish-language film and 2015’s ‘Best Film’ IFTA winner, Amhrán na Mara (Song of the Sea). There will be food and drinks available from vendors onsite and walkabout fun characters for photo opportunities.

A DCC spokesperson said: "Dublin City Council’s ‘Meeting House Square Outdoor Cinema Club’ will see children’s movies taking place in Meeting House Square every Sunday in September beginning September 4. Free tickets will be available on a weekly basis via Eventbrite starting from August 16."

Open air screenings are becoming more popular with Dubs flocking to an outdoor screening of Grease during the Stoneybatter Pride of Place Festival in June.
