Free transport available for applicable schoolkids in South Lanarkshire

South Lanarkshire Council is offering free transport for primary and secondary pupils who require it.

Applications for children in need of transportation for starting primary or secondary school this coming August can be made up until the end of next month.

The council offers school transport for primary school kids who live one or more miles from their catchment primary school by the shortest safe walking route.

This may mean the children are given a bus pass to use on local bus services, contract buses hired, smaller vehicles including taxis, private hire cars or mini buses or the council’s own transport.

Primary school pupils may also be entitled to free transport if they have been recommended for school transport by their doctor, if they attend a specialist school centre recommended by the council or if they have a walking route which has been deemed unsafe in Road Safety Forum guidelines.

Secondary school pupils are offered school transport if they live two or more miles away from the catchment school by the shortest safe walking route, they are also entitled if they fall under any of the same other categories as primary pupils.

Applications can be made here for eligible pupils and separate forms must be completed for each child.
