Free Now customers to be charged new 'technology fee' on top of fare

Free Now is set to charge customers a "technology fee" in the new year.

The e-taxi app said the new fee will be charged on top of the fare depending on the transportation method chosen by the user. The technology fee will range from €1 to €5.

A statement on the Free Now website said: "[The technology fee] goes towards making sure that we can continue to invest in technology improvements that will allow us to extend our product offering for passengers. The passenger will always see the fee estimation upfront before you place your order, and also on your receipt."

Customers who pay for their trip using cash will be charged the new fee through another private payment registered on the app. Users may be suspended from using the app if there is no payment method registered until they pay the outstanding charges.

The technology fee will be separately represented on the receipt emailed to the customer after completing the trip. Here is the full breakdown of the new charges:

Transportation method Technology fee
Regular Taxi (4 seats) €1
Multi-seater taxi (5 plus seats) €3
Reserve fleet (4-8 seats) €3
Premium Vehicle €5

You can read all the new general terms and conditions on the Free Now website.
