Free NHS staff parking at Nottinghamshire hospitals extended until autumn

NHS staff at Nottinghamshire hospitals will still be able to park at work for free until at least the autumn. Workers at Sherwood Forest Hospitals will continue to benefit from the scheme that was introduced during the Covid pandemic, despite the government dropping financial support for it on April 1.

Paul Robinson, chief executive at the trust that runs King's Mill Hospital and hospitals in Newark and Mansfield, said it "did not feel right" to re-introduce the charges at short notice. "We decided that free parking will continue and will be reviewed in the autumn," he said in his monthly report.

"Eventually, however, we will need to bring back charges and I am committed to working with staff to make sure we offer the best service and value." Mr Robinson said the trust would seek the views of staff over the coming months.

"I can’t guarantee we will please everyone and ultimately many of us will need to resume paying if we are to continue driving to work but this gives us an opportunity to talk about the fairest ways it might be done," he added. Nottingham University Hospitals previously said it would likely to reintroduce the charge in the early summer.
