'Free Joao Felix' - Man United transfer plea made after Atletico Madrid's Champions League exit

Manchester United fans have made a passionate transfer plea for their club to sign Joao Felix after Atletico Madrid finished bottom of their Champions League on Tuesday night.

Diego Simeone's side have been dumped out of Europe following their 2-1 defeat to Porto. The La Liga club finished last in their group, behind Bayer Leverkusen and Club Brugge and their Portuguese opposition, the overall group winners.

Due to their fourth-place finish, Atletico won't even progress to the next round of Europa League matches. Their exit from the premier club competition was already confirmed last week, as they dramatically drew against Leverkusen to prevent them from achieving a top-two finish, as they missed an injury-time penalty awarded after the full-time whistle had been blown.

In that game, Felix appeared to want to take the penalty himself, only to be dismissed by Yannick Carrasco, who eventually went on to miss. The Portuguese international is now out of both the Champions League and Europa League for the rest of the season following Tuesday night's disappointing result.

United have been linked with a move for the attacking midfielder, who is reportedly unhappy with his lack of gametime under Simeone in the Spanish capital. Erik ten Hag's side were believed to be interested in offering Felix an escape route, yet a potential stumbling block over an inflated price-tag of more than €100million could hold up any potential deal.

However, following Atletico's exit from Europe this season, the door may well have opened a fraction to any club interested in Felix's services. United fans certainly believed so, as they took to social media to plead with their club to bring the 22-year-old to Old Trafford.
