Free Hamilton fun day promises to be bigger and better than ever before with 'special guests' set to perform

One of Hamilton 's most popular fun days is set to return at the end of the month.

The Hillhouse Community Council say this year's event, rebranded Hillhouse Festival, will be bigger and better than ever with lots of exciting activities featuring on the day.

After last year's success of the event's first ever live concert taking place in the evening, the entertainment stage is back and some high profile "special guest stars" are expected to perform.

More details will be revealed by organisers closer to the time, as the community looks forward to the annual day of celebration.

Hillhouse Community Council chairman Tom Skilling told Lanarkshire Live : "This year the event will start an hour earlier than usual which will be for a quiet hour.

"This is for those with neurodivergence or who may prefer a quieter experience.

"There'll be lots of fairground rides, a funhouse, teacups, go-karts, lots of different bouncy castles, slides, free face-painting, balloons and lots of stalls.

"We'll have people from the Greenhouse Trust and autism charities there on the day, so there'll be a bit of everything.

"Between 5pm and 9pm will be the free concert with our special guest stars."

A number of fairground rides will be on display as well as a boogie bus, rodeo bull, and lots more.

The event is free to attend and is funded by the National Lottery fund.

There will be food available on the day, provided by Roland Fillings, however this will not be free.

Thanking those behind the scenes, Tom added: "The National Lottery has really supported us over the past four or five years so a big thank you goes to them, as well as other partners such as the local council and different businesses who have been a big help."

The day will also be attended by local MP Margaret Ferrier and South Lanarkshire Provost Margaret Cooper.

Tom said: "It means so much to us to have this day as it's a highlight for the whole Hillhouse area.

"We hope to see lots of happy smiley faces, especially during these times with the cost of living.

"To bring that little bit of joy makes it worthwhile for us. Hopefully we can cheer people up, not just for the day but for a little while at least."

The Hillhouse Festival takes place on August 27 between 10am and 3pm for the fun day events with the evening concert starting at 5pm until 9pm.

It will all be held at Hillhouse and Earnock Community Centre in Hamilton.
