Free flu jab rollout extended in Victoria

Free vaccinations are available at 2000 GP clinics and pharmacies across Victoria until July 10. (AAP)

Victorians will be able to access a free influenza vaccination throughout the school holidays after the program was extended by the state government.

Initially only available throughout June to Victorians aged six months and over, the rollout has been extended to July 10.

The flu vaccination was already free for children under five years old, people over 65, pregnant women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and those with increased risk from medical conditions.

Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas said this winter is already shaping up to be the most aggressive flu season since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Getting vaccinated against both COVID-19 and the flu not only keeps the pressure off our hospitals, but also gives you and your loved ones the best protection possible over the winter period," she said.

Free vaccinations are available at 2000 GP clinics and community pharmacies across the state.
