Free family favourite festival return to Manchester city centre this weekend

A festival is returning for families living in Manchester city centre this weekend — and also allows youngsters and parents the opportunity to explore a newly revitalised iconic venue.

The Big Garden Party will focus itself around Sadler’s Yard in the NOMA area of the city, and is free to attend. It will run from 11am to 7pm this Saturday (September 10).

There will opportunities to make a table top Worm Farm with The Urban Worm, make seed bombs and grow micro herbs with Sow the City, take a walking tour with Skyliner and much more. Alongside this, music has been curated by Stutter and Twich Altrincham with music from The String Bean and DJ’s in Sadler’s Yard till 7pm on the day

Organisers say it’s a ‘fantastic opportunity’ for one final celebration before summer comes to an end. Dan Hyde explained: “The Big Garden Party is a fantastic opportunity for visitors and locals to celebrate the drawing of the summer months by getting together and enjoying local food, drinks, music, gardening, crafts, socialising and more – there’ll be something for everyone and we’re expecting a great turnout.

“This event, as with other NOMA initiatives, is underpinned by our commitment to an inclusive, forward thinking, neighbourhood-led approach in what we do and we can’t wait for everyone to enjoy it as they have done in previous years.”

Festival-goers can also get a peek at the newly reopened New Century building. The venue has previously hosted the likes of Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones in the past.

This time around, it will open its doors with a selection of independent food offerings from a variety of local vendors, including Zumuku Sushi, Ply, chef Tom Lowe, Banh Vi, BaoBros23 and Adam Reid’s ‘posh butties’. Food will also be provided from Yellowhammer, DGHNT and Desert Island Dumplings in Sadler’s Yard.
