Free family activities on offer across Nottinghamshire during February half-term

February half-term is fast approaching which means a week where parents and carers need to occupy their little ones. The days can be hard to fill and money is tight for many.

When you want to get out of the house and not spend a penny, it can be difficult to know where to go and what to do. We have rounded up a range of free activities taking place over February half-term to help give you some answers.

From curious science-based activities to afternoons spent getting creative, there's plenty on offer that won't break the bank. However, most of these activities will require booking tickets to ensure you've got a spot.

Here are five activities:

Festival of Science and Curiosity

Where: Various venues across Nottinghamshire

When: February 6 to 17

The annual festival is all about showcasing a world of science and curiosity that's all around us every day. Throughout the festival, there are many free events taking place over half-term. It includes a science fun day at Meadows Library, women in STEM event at Green's Mill and a secret science show at Wollaton Hall.

Slo-mo and Go!

Where: Nottingham Contemporary

When: February 14 to 16, 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm

It's time to dance, make and play, but not as you know it. Taking inspiration from Nottingham Contemporary's new exhibitions Charlotte Johannesson, Carolyn Lazard: Long Take and Rosalind Nashashibi: Hooks, they slow down, transform, and repeat. The immersive experience are drop-in - however, booking a space for your session is recommended as spaces are limited.

Saturday Art Club

Where: New Art Exchange

When: Saturdays from February 11 to April 15, 10.30am to 12.30pm

Kickstart your Saturday during February half-term with free drop-in creative workshops. It is a space for creative learning and lots of fun. It includes artist-led activities, which change each session. The sessions are tailored for ages four to seven but children from birth up to 10 are welcome and are Neurodiverse friendly.

Make a Mark!

Where: University of Nottingham Museum and Learning Studio

When: February 11, 11am to 4pm

Learn about the Stone Age by engraving a Stone Age 'bone'. In a session led by Creswell Crags Heritage Facilitators, children can create their version of one of the oldest known spinning toys, or dig in excavation boxes as little archaeologists.

The session is suitable for children five and up with parental supervision required. Find out more here.

Little Creatives

Where: Libraries in Bingham, Blidworth, Edwinstowe, Hucknall, Mansfield, Mansfield Woodhouse, Ravenshead, Retford, Sutton in Ashfield, West Bridgford and Worksop

When: Various dates and times across half-term

Calling all tiny artists. The creative art sessions are specifically designed by artists and are taking place in libraries across Nottinghamshire. Designed with funding from Arts Council England, Little Creatives family arts workshops have been developed especially for children aged two to five and their families.

A team of professional artists have been working creatively to help early years' children learn new skills and have multi-sensory creative experiences. Workshops are free but places are limited so booking is advised. All children must be accompanied, but adults do not require a ticket to attend. Find the full list of dates and book here.
