Free Edinburgh wild welly walk for families with woodland crafts and den making

As the Easter break comes to an end, finding activities to keep the family entertained can be a struggle - especially on a budget.

Thankfully, there's a family event at the Water of Leith that'll keep the wee ones busy. The family can explore the rivers and woods, follow the trails, and take part in some arts and crafts.

The day is completely free, with a donation to the Water of Leith Conservation Trust suggested.

The trail follows a half-mile route by the water and is aimed at under-six-year-olds though siblings are welcome. Organisers have said the walkway will be muddy and could be difficult for buggies.

The Water of Leith Conservation Trust said: "A fun family event for children under six to explore the river and woods in springtime.

"Follow the woodland trail and see what you will discover. Bring your wellies for splashing in the river to help mother duck find her ducklings.

"Search for the hungry squirrel's lost nuts, bring your favourite soft toy to make a mini-den for them. Join children's book author Elizabeth Kelly to learn about her wonderful fairy Ivy from Ivy's Magical Mission."

Kids can then head back to the visitor centre for arts and crafts, and a chance to explore the interactive exhibition. Organisers have said the cafe will be open in the afternoon for those looking to refuel after the adventure.

While the event is free, slots need to be booked to ensure everyone can get a start time - which you can do here.
