Freddie Woodman on Rangers' radar as Michael Beale 'eyes up' deal to take Preston star to Ibrox

Freddie Woodman is on Rangers' radar as Michael Beale eyes up a summer swoop, according to reports.

The Light Blues are in the market for a new No1 with veteran Allan McGregor expected to leave in the summer when his contract expires and the Scottish Sun reports that they could move for Preston's goalkeeper in a £3.5million deal.

Ibrox scouts are believed to have watched the 25-year-old in action numerous times this season and once again took in his performance against Coventry City at Deepdale midweek. The former Newcastle United goalie has previous experience of playing in Scotland's top flight having enjoyed loan spells with Aberdeen and Kilmarnock.

The same report states the second tier side are willing to do business in the summer and indicated to interested parties they will listen to offers although he won't leave on the cheap with two years still to run on his current deal.

He's believed to be one of the top earners at the English Championship side, who he joined last summer from the Toon Army - who are flying high in the English Premier League.

Beale has given Jon McLaughlin a chance over the last period by rotating him with No1 McGregor in certain matches. He's also declared his intentions to give Robby McCrorie a run out before the summer to properly look at his options.

Back in October McCrorie penned fresh terms at the club until 2025 while McLaughlin is also under contract until the end of next season.

Beale has started putting his own stamp on Rangers with the January arrivals of Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin while James Sands has returned to New York City after his loan was cut short. The USA midfielder has penned fresh terms at his parent club despite other options to continue in Europe as he said his farewell to the Ibrox side.
