Teenager Freddie McCann hit 130 to ease Nottinghamshire’s fears of relegation against Warwickshire.

The hosts recovered from 55 for three to reach 324 for six at the close of day two at Trent Bridge.

Kyle Verreynne was unbeaten on 76 as Notts secured two batting points, and a draw will now be enough now for both sides to escape the drop at Lancashire’s expense.

Lancashire’s dwindling chances of avoiding the drop were hampered by the weather.

Needing a win at Worcestershire to stand any chance of staying up, no play was possible on day two at New Road.

Kyle Abbott put Hampshire in charge of their match with Somerset at Taunton.

The 37-year-old seamer, who took four wickets in the first innings, registered three for 11 in the second as the hosts slumped to 60 for four.

Hampshire had earlier secured a first-innings lead of 60 by making 196 with Toby Albert scoring 77, and look well placed to finish as runners-up behind Surrey.

In Division Two, Ben Coad took his 300th wicket for Yorkshire in a spell of three for 29 as Northamptonshire were restricted to 117 for six at Headingley to boost the hosts’ promotion chances.

Glamorgan recovered from losing three wickets for 12 runs to reach 283 for four against Gloucestershire.

Chris Cooke was unbeaten on 43 and Sam Northeast 27 not out for the hosts.

Play in the five other matches was abandoned due to rain.

Durham’s match with Kent and Surrey’s clash at Essex were also casualties in Division One, while no play was possible between Leicestershire and Derbyshire and Sussex against Middlesex in Division Two.
