Fred backs up Marcus Rashford amid claims of Man Utd dressing room divide

Fred has become the latest Manchester United star to rally back against claims of a dressing room divide at Old Trafford.

Despite the midweek victory over Brighton - their first in four games - there has been continuing speculation in regards to a split behind the scenes.

Marcus Rashford was forced to break ranks and publicly comment on the speculation amid reports the England international and Harry Maguire were ‘irritated’ by Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Are we just making it up as we go along now then? Please stop looking for divides,” Rashford tweeted in response to the original claims.

Now Fred, who has enjoyed a positive start to life under Ralf Rangnick has backed up his team-mate, revealing that the atmosphere amongst the playing staff is a positive one, despite what has been a difficult start for the interim boss.

"Our dressing room is really good,” the Brazilian midfielder told Sky Sports. “There's a lot of fake news and a lot of rumours surrounding it but it's great. We work together and we all have the same goals and objectives.

"It's not easy for the manager to keep everyone happy because everyone wants to play and we have so many good players. But we understand each other. We have developed harmony in the dressing room and I think that's the most important thing we have. We have maximum respect for each other in the dressing room."

Mirror Football understands however that there are issues in the dressing room at Old Trafford, stemming from Rangnick's desire to make Cristiano Ronaldo captain, at Harry Maguire's expense.

Along with suggestions of cliques within the playing squad, there have been lingering concerns that they have failed to warm to Rangnick and his coaching staff, who are set to be in charge until the end of the season.

But Fred has credited Rangnick with his mini-resurgence, after being handed a more progressive role than the one he was often tasked with under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

As opposed to being little more than a screen for the back four, the 28-year-old has been given more licence to roam forward, something he is enjoying.

"I really like playing there," he explained. "With the Seleção, I play in a position which is closer to the opposition goal and the coach here has changed my positioning too and I really like it."

Fred continued: "Ralf just wants me to do my best. He knows the energy I have but also the quality I have. Obviously, he has a different way of working from the previous manager, but we have to adapt to that.

“We have to start again. That's not easy, but we need to give everything we have in training. We have had good results and not-so-good results in the last few games but we're really happy with the win against Brighton and we now need to keep improving.

“We've got an intense month with a lot of important games, so we need to continue giving our best."
