Fred and his Manchester United teammates send messages to James Garner following promotion

Anthony Elanga and Fred were among those congratulating James Garner as the Manchester United loanee celebrated promotion with Nottingham Forest.

The midfielder capped an impressive season with the Championship club as he helped them to victory over Huddersfield at Wembley. Levi Colwill turned Garner’s cross into his own net for the decisive goal of the game to send Forest back to the Premier League.

It ends a 23-year wait for the Reds, who completed a superb turnaround under Steve Cooper, having lost six of their first seven games this season before the former Swansea boss’ arrival. Garner has been instrumental in their success, having earned widespread plaudits for his displays, particularly during the second half of the season.

And having secured promotion with Forest, Garner took to Instagram to share a picture of himself celebrating back on the team bus with the play-off trophy and his winner’s medal. A few familiar faces also popped up in the replies to offer their congratulations.

Elanga, a regular teammate of Garner’s at United’s academy, wrote "Yesssssiirrrrrrrr" while Fred simply posted five clapping emojis. Also sharing messages with the midfielder were Brandon Williams, Teden Mengi, Reece Devine, Di’Shon Bernard, Ethan Galbraith and Martin Svidersky. D’Mani Mellor also sent his congratulations, despite having recently announced his departure from Old Trafford.

More of Garner’s former academy teammates shared their congratulations, with the likes of Angel Gomes, Dion McGhee and George Tanner replying. There were also plenty of United fans sharing their excitement at the prospect of seeing the midfielder back at Old Trafford next season.

Garner is set to head back to United this summer where he will be aiming to catch the eye of new manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman will have a decision to make over the 21-year-old’s immediate future.
