Several people have been taken to hospital and roads are in chaos after a bus end up perched on a concrete median strip after a collision on one of inner-Sydney’s busiest roads.

The bus became stranded on two wheels, with the concrete barrier propping it up on one side, after it crashed at the Lyons and Victoria roads intersection in Drummoyne about 12.30pm on Thursday.

Fire and Rescue NSW sent four vehicles to the scene, where the coach was skewed at a 30-degree angle on top of the metre-high barrier on Victoria Road after it collided with a ute and a car.

FRNSW firefighters helped free the ute driver, who was briefly trapped in the wreckage. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

NSW Ambulance said 20 patients were assessed at the scene, with one passenger and the bus driver also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Witness James Willis said he had “never seen anything like it”.

“I have just had a quick chat to the driver, who really isn’t sure what happened,” Mr Willis told Sydney’s 2GB radio.

“There is a bus in the middle of these concrete bollards up on its side.

“It is on two wheels, the front windscreen has been completely smashed and from what I can see, all of the passengers have got off.”

Firefighters righted the stricken bus, using stabilisation equipment and a chain pull system.

Traffic was blocked in the busy area for several hours. By later on Thursday afternoon, the stricken bus was removed and the area declared safe, but the fallout continued.

Commuters were advised to consider using the Sydney Harbour Bridge or Church Street and Homebush Bay Drive to get around the scene.
