Frasier will officially be returning to our screens, with the much-anticipated sequel greenlit by US streaming service Paramount+.
The new series will see Kelsey Grammer return to the titular role once again, having expressed an interest in a reboot back in 2018. He has been the driving force behind efforts to get the green light and will serve as executive producer.
The new series will see psychiatrist turned radio host Frasier Crane start a new life in a new city, having left Seattle in the final episode of the original series.
The character had relocated to Chicago, after turning down a promising new job in San Francisco, so he could be close to his girlfriend Charlotte.
Confirming the news on Twitter, Paramount+ wrote: "The wait is finally over! #Frasier will return on #ParamountPlus."
Fans seemed happy about the news, with one person replying: "That's amazing."
Another said: "An absolute gem of a series. Rewatched several times, always a delight," with a third fan adding: "Some good news for the world at last! Thank you Frasier cast & writers. So excited."
"Ooo that would be good," penned another.
Frasier became one of television's most successful sitcoms. It ran for 263 episodes between 1993 and 2004 and won 37 Emmy awards.
The new series will reportedly feature mostly new characters.
Members of the original cast – David Hyde Pierce’s Niles, Jane Leeves’ Daphne and Peri Gilpin’s Roz – aren’t expected to be regulars, according to Deadline.
The new series comes from writers Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life In Pieces). The series will be produced by CBS Studios in association with Kelsey's Grammnet NH Productions.
Kelsey confirmed they were in the "final stages of the final script for the first episode" back in July.
"I’ve had a couple of runs through it, and I cried, so I’m happy," he said during an appearance on The Talk.
He also said he credits the title character as being the key element in the revival's success.
"The key ingredient for the Frasier reboot is actually Frasier, honestly. It was always called [Frasier], so it’s me, the key is me," he joked.
