Frasers Group set to create 7,500 jobs with new global HQ campus

High street retail group Frasers has announced major investment plans into the West Midlands which could see up to 7,500 new jobs created.

The company, which owns household names such as Sports Direct, House of Fraser, Game and Evans Cycles, wants to build a new global headquarters campus in Warwickshire which it says could add £300 million in GVA to the region's economy.

Plans for the campus include logistics, office and R&D space, a hotel and leisure facilities while a gym, swimming pool and bookable courts and pitches are also proposed and would be open to the public.

A consultation has launched into the scheme which is proposed for vacant land next to junction two of the M6 in Ansty, north east of Coventry city centre.

It has been designed by architecture practice Grimshaw which is behind the new HS2 Curzon Street station in Birmingham and also the Eden Project in Cornwall. Frasers Group is currently headquartered in Shirebrook near Mansfield but a spokesman said no decision had been taken yet on what would happen to that site if the Ansty scheme went ahead.

A statement from Frasers Group said: "To accelerate the business' growth and support our future, we have explored options for a potential new site. This new location would provide the group with a well-located, world-class platform to further deliver our successful elevation strategy."

A planning application is due to be lodged with Rugby Borough Council in the next few months following completion of the public consultation.

Feedback on the proposals can be left on the consultation website at j2-ansty.co.uk until October 21. Public consultation events showcasing the plans are also taking place at Ansty Golf Centre, in Brinklow Road, on October 11 and 12, from 2pm to 7pm.
