A pigeon got trapped in the window of the Greggs store, close to Temple Meads Station. This was the second bird to get caught in a city store in the past couple of weeks.
Tim Shires, who works nearby, said he and a friend had gone to Greggs to get something to eat on Friday (July 7, 2023) when he spotted the frantic bird in the shop window. He said: “The poor thing was in the window and it looked quite stressed. A sign had been put up on the front door saying pest control had been called,” he said.

This is the second such incident as a seagull which got stuck in an Asda store in Bedminster made headlines towards the end of June. For more than a fortnight it survived by stealing food from the store shelves. It was caught on camera swooping over the freezer section and also perching high in the rafters by shoppers who posted it on social media.

Asda staff and a specialist team called in to help capture it tried for two weeks to persuade the bird to head towards the exit. This included leaving a trail of crisps and bread as well as using cherry pickers to get into the high ceiling and trying to catch it with nets.
But the cunning gull continued to evade capture and a bird welfare group expressed concern that the stressed animal could be struggling. Foundation for Feathered Friends tried to rescue the seagull while the shop was open and a rescue finally took place when its volunteers stayed after closing hours.
The worn-out seagull flew into the clothes section where one of the bird group volunteer's managed to catch it in a corner. The seagull was taken to a local vet for a check-up and to be treated for minor injuries.
