Well, it looks like Frankie Luvu’s mom is going to have to be at the rest of his games this season.
As announced on Wednesday afternoon, the Carolina Panthers linebacker has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the 15-13 win over the Houston Texans. This is the first such honor of the sixth-year defender’s NFL career.
Luvu led the way for the Panthers with a season-high 12 combined tackles, a sack and two passes defensed. His performance helped Carolina push out their best defensive showing of the 2023 campaign, one in which they held the Texans to just 229 total yards and one touchdown.
As highlighted by the NFL on FOX broadcast—Frankie’s mother, Ia, was in attendance at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday. This was her first time seeing her son play in an NFL game.

So hopefully for Frankie, Ia and the Panthers—it’s the first of many.
