Frankie Goes to Hollywood couldn't find luggage at Dublin Airport

Pop icon Holly Johnson had to Relax when his luggage went missing after flying in for an Irish gig.

The former lead singer of Frankie Goes To Hollywood arrived to headline the Forever Young Festival at Palmerston House in Co Kildare.

But the star ended up racing to the shops ahead of the 80s gig to get kitted out. Holly, 62, told the crowds: “It hasn’t exactly been easy, they couldn’t find my luggage at Dublin Airport, but luckily the sales were on."

Johnson’s hour-set contained all seven Frankie Goes To Hollywood singles and a number of his solo hits including Americanos. He kept the best for last for his fans – the set finishing with the smash hits Two Tribes, Relax and encoring with The Power of Love.

It was a nostalgic weekend in the sunshine for the 25,000 fans – and many played homage to their favourite 80s icons dressing up for the occasion with lots of Madonnas and Boy Georges in the crowd. And belting out one of the biggest hits of the 80s was Carol Decker of T’Pau.

The 64-year-old, with roaring red hair and leather trousers, had a mainly upbeat bluesy set but wowed the fans by finishing with a multi-octave version of No1 hit China In You Hand. She said: “It is hot isn’t ladies? I am sweating so much I’ve had two showers and gone through three thongs already.”

Hue and Cry, The Christians, Then Jericho, Johnny Hates Jazz and Limahl all took to the stage on Saturday.

And the early crowd pleaser was Wendy James of pop rock group Transvision Vamp. The Baby I Don’t Care singer said: “I have had more hits than I could fit in and would have loved to stayed on, the crowd were just getting going.

“I went down to do some signing and for some pictures with the fans and stayed with them for two hours, that really made me want to get up on stage again, the Irish fans here are really great.”
