Frankie Essex has revealed that her twins were conceived six days apart which is the reason why they look so different.
The reality TV star, 34, gave birth to twins Logan and Luella in June and has been in and out of hospital with the babies since.
In October Logan was rushed to A&E and had to have an abscess removed from his leg.
Luella was born with a condition called torticollis, a twisting of the neck that can cause the head to rotate and tilt.
The two non-identical twins look very different to one another, and Frankie thinks she knows why.
“Some boy and girl twins can look like each other in that you can tell that they’re brother and sister, but Logan and Luella don’t look alike at all. I think it’s because they were conceived at different times,” the TOWIE star told OK! Magazine.
"When we went for our eight week scan, Logan had a heartbeat and was a full embryo and Luella had just got her heartbeat. She was six days behind him.
"Basically I was already pregnant and then I fell pregnant again. We could have just ended up with Logan. It’s not 100%, but I think that’s why the twins are so different.”
Frankie went on: "Also when we had our scan and told us we were having twins, the nurse said: ‘Don’t get excited, you could get a vanishing twin’.
"This means you can lose one in the womb and that’s why the NHS gives you a 12 week scan because by then you know if both babies have formed. So, Luella had just got her heartbeat at eight weeks, but she might not have made it.
"That’s why I didn’t tell anyone about it. I didn’t tell my family or anything until I was 25 weeks pregnant until I was 100% that they’d both survived."
The reality star, who shares her twins with her personal trainer boyfriend Luke Luv, 32, announced that she was expecting in February last year.
At the time, she told New!: "I didn’t have a period for a couple of months when I stopped everything. Then I had my period, and wrote that down.
"The next month came along and I didn’t have one, so I just assumed they were messed up from coming off contraception."
"I left it for another two weeks. Then I just bought a pregnancy test to see. I did it and it came back positive! I was so shocked, I didn’t tell Luke for a week."
To celebrate the babies' first 12 weeks, Frankie shared a sweet video of the moment she first held them.
She added the caption: "The most amazing 12 weeks 84 days, 2016 hours 120960 minutes of our life out little darlings our babies our twins.
"We are so lucky to be your mummy and daddy thank you for showing us love like no other you both have made this world a better place.
"Luella how you wake up in the morning with the biggest smile on your face makes our hearts so full and our baby Logan the moment you started to coo We will never forget the feeling it gave us you are just incredible baby boy."
