If Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Brian Burns isn’t explicitly holding out, then is he holding in? Head coach Frank Reich spoke about that ongoing and difficult situation this afternoon.
After sitting out the bulk of this past Thursday’s outing for the team, Burns did not participate in this morning’s walkthrough. Reich was asked, especially with two open spots on the active roster, if the absence of the two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher complicates the plan for his Week 1 preparation.

But does it make it harder? Yeah, it makes it harder. I mean, that’s just the facts. I’m sure he understands that. And you can’t find more of a team guy than him.
“Life is complicated sometimes. It’s complicated. So, we just keep movin’ forward day by day.”
Burns is still seeking a contract extension from the Panthers, who open their season against the division rival Atlanta Falcons in just six days. He has, however, been present for team meetings despite his pair of DNPs.
Reich would also say that Burns’ status, whether he’s suited up for Sunday or not, is out of his control.
“I’m at the stage in this where I’m not involved in the contract negotiation. At all. Zero,” he added. “Mr. Tepper and Scott [Fitterer] asked me my views of certain things. I’ve expressed my views.
“I’m just worried about gettin’ our team ready to play Atlanta. Really. That’s all that’s on my mind. And do I hope he’s there? Absolutely I hope he’s there. But if he’s not there, I’m not worried about it. Just move forward.”
