Newcastle United are set to complete a deal worth up to £45 million for Anthony Gordon after the Everton forward arrived on Tyneside for a medical. The transfer for the England youth international is set to be confirmed well ahead of Tuesday's deadline and the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final tie with Southampton.
Gordon enjoyed a breakout campaign at Goodison Park last term under Frank Lampard, with the young forward helping the Toffees to avoid relegation. However, the 21-year-old has struggled for form in recent months and was the target of fan abuse following the home defeat to fellow strugglers Southampton earlier this month.
The fee for Gordon alongside a reported £60m price tag when Chelsea were interested in the summer has led some to question the value of Newcastle's upcoming transfer. However, the Magpies could be getting a good deal if Lampard's confident prediction from five months ago proves to be true.

The ex-Everton boss was quizzed on Gordon's interest in the face of mounting speculation over Chelsea's interest. Reflecting on his short managerial career to date, Lampard insisted the forward was in the same 'bracket' as his former players who could now command a price tag in excess of £100m.
He told Sky Sports: "I've been fortunate enough to work with fantastic young players in my time at Derby, and in my time at Chelsea. I've seen them develop and become England internationals, Champions League winners worth maybe triple figures in terms of some of their personal values. Anthony is in that bracket."
Lampard added: "He's a huge player for us. Not only is there a big value for the club if you want to talk financially, but more importantly a big value to the squad and the team."
