Frank Lampard pulls Everton players away from furious fans as police intervene

Frank Lampard was forced to pull his Everton players away from their own travelling fans after tensions boiled over following their 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth.

The Everton players made their way over to the away end at full-time in a bid to say thank you for the support but things turned sour quickly. Fans made clear they were furious with what they had just witnessed and some Toffees players didn't take too kindly to the backlash.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford had to be dragged away by his manager after what appeared to be a heated exchange between the shot-stopper and an Everton fan. Alex Iwobi appeared to throw his shirt into the crowd only to see it angrily thrown back onto the pitch.

It was an afternoon to forget for Everton shot-stopper Pickford who spilt the ball for Bournemouth's first and was slow to respond for their second. Jaidon Anthony capped off a stellar display from the hosts with a third in the second half.

The Everton support were in no mood to mask their feelings come full-time and that didn't seem to go down well with the Toffees' more senior players, many of whom had to be led away by Lampard.

At one stage, police were also forced to intervene in a bid to try and calm the situation before it boiled over. The result has only increased pressure on Lampard, who is clearly rapidly losing popularity among the fanbase.

After the game, Lampard cut a dejected figure during his post-match media duties.

"Not a good one, clearly, to lose like that in the manner that we did," he admitted. "We started okay but the mistake gives them a goal, I think the referee got it wrong, game should have stopped as James Tarkowski is in the six-yard box down with a head injury.

"I think the referee got that wrong but I won't lean on that too much, it's difficult to get back into a game at 2-0 it changes the tone and makes it a completely different game but we have to take responsibility for it, it just wasn't enough."

Lampard refused to shy away from the ugly scenes at full-time, insisting: "The fans have a right to be disappointed. They have come down here twice this week and seen poor performances... we have to understand that they can voice their opinions and their opinions are right."

Everton now sit 17th - just one point above the relegation zone, with Nottingham Forest now breathing down their necks a place below. Their next clash comes on December 20 when they take on Blackburn in the Carabao Cup.

League action for the Toffees doesn't resume until Boxing Day, where Lampard's side will welcome struggling Wolves to Goodison Park with the aim of a first league win since late October.
