Frank Lampard names three reasons why he signed Manchester United's Donny van de Beek on loan

Frank Lampard has explained he wanted to sign Manchester United's Donny van de Beek on loan for three reasons.

Van de Beek joined Everton on a deal until the end of the season after successfully undergoing a medical on January deadline day.

The former Ajax midfielder made two starts in the Premier League across the entirety of 2021 and he played just 380 minutes for United across all competitions this season. The loan move to Everton promised Van de Beek more minutes and a regular first-team role.

The Dutchman was left on the bench for Everton's game against Newcastle but started this weekend at home to Leeds.

Van de Beek was instrumental in Everton's 3-0 win at Goodison Park and Lampard was effusive in his praise after the match.

"I expected that," Lampard said when asked about Van de Beek's immediate impact.

"I knew Donny as a player from the outside and I brought him here because of his talent in terms of his play, his intelligence and his work ethic. He's a technical player but he matched the other players for work ethic.

"He gave us a sense of calm and he linked the play.

"He looked confident on the ball and that's exactly what I brought him here to do."

There is no option to make Van de Beek's loan deal permanent at the end of the season
