Frank Lampard makes Farhad Moshiri admission after Everton lose to West Ham

Frank Lampard was aware Everton's majority shareholder was in attendance at the club's tie with West Ham United - the first time he was present for a game during the Blues boss' reign.

Farhad Moshiri was in the directors' box alongside board members including chairman Bill Kenwright, chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale and non-executive director Graeme Sharp. After the match, Mr Moshiri told Sky it was not his decision as to whether Lampard would stay in his job.

Lampard was unaware of those comments when he attended the post-West Ham press conference in the bowels of the London Stadium. And while he confirmed he was aware of Mr Moshiri's presence for the match, he said he had not spoken to him during the day.

Lampard has repeatedly been asked about conversations with the Everton hierarchy during a torrid spell in which the side have slumped into the relegation zone. On Thursday he confirmed he had spoken to Mr Moshiri earlier in the week and he has previously said he has regular conversations with Mr Kenwright. Mr Moshiri publicly backed Lampard twice earlier this month, both in an open letter and in a radio interview.

Asked whether Mr Moshiri's attendance had 'sent a message' to him, Lampard said after the West Ham match: "No, not to me. Whether it should or not is not for me to second guess. I've been asked this question a lot now and I know there are things going on at the club so I understand why, but it has never been a consequence to me whether an owner or a chairman or a board member are at the game.

"I spent 18 months at Chelsea and the owner didn't come to one competitive game. It's not about that for me so you can read into it what you want but, when I say it is of no concern I am not talking anything away from it, it is just not the relevant thing for me."
