Frank Lampard has remained tight-lipped on speculation that he is closing in on a deal for Neal Maupay but admitted that Everton do need more attacking options.
Lampard has consistently refused to speak on individual transfer targets from other clubs throughout this window and maintained this stance when quizzed about the 26-year-old French striker who has been given permission to discuss a move away from Brighton & Hove Albion after entering the final year on his contract.
When asked what he could say about a potential deal for Maupay, Lampard said: “Nothing, I’m not going to go in on all potential deals.”

In terms of whether Everton are looking to sign one striker or potentially more before the window closes, Lampard said: “We’ll see, we are short on attacking options.
“Potentially, especially with the five subs we can use now, we’re going to see squads more full of players that are either starters or really good options to come on. We want to look in that area.”
Later in the press conference when asked again about a forward coming in, Lampard added: "It will happen.
"We will improve (that area) by the end of this window."
Since first arriving in England in 2017 with Brentford and then joining Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee reported to be in the region of £20million in 2019, Maupay has scored 68 goals in 204 games, including 26 in the Premier League.
