Frank Lampard is keeping his fingers crossed over Donny van de Beek after giving an update on the on-loan Manchester United midfielder’s injury.
Van de Beek was forced off with around 20 minutes remaining of Everton’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at Goodison Park on Saturday.
The midfielder sent another timely reminder to United following their goalless draw with Watford as he impressed in Everton’s efforts to give City another fright following their defeat to Tottenham last weekend.
Van de Beek worked tirelessly going forward and did his duties in defence as City looked to be heading for a goalless draw, with United fans noting how he managed to keep Raheem Sterling quiet.
The Netherlands international though had to be replaced by Dele Alli in the 71st minute after going down injured, and 10 minutes later City found their winner through Phil Foden – although they also had to survive a controversial VAR call as the hosts were denied a penalty when the ball struck Rodri’s arm.
Lampard and his side were left incensed with the decision after the game, and to rub salt into the wounds, there is also concern over Van de Beek after he limped off the pitch.
The Everton boss played down the midfielder’s injury after the game, although the full extent of it is not yet known.
"We hope it's cramp. I don't want to completely commit to that but we hope it is. He said he felt like it wasn't so bad,” Lampard said when asked about Van de Beek’s injury.
United fans will also be hoping for good news on Van de Beek once the full extent of his injury is known.
The 24-year-old is on loan at Goodison Park for the remainder of the season, where he will be hoping to convince his parent club he’s deserving of a regular place in United’s side next season.
