Dele Alli has completed a move to Everton on the last day of the transfer window. Shocked but not surprised. The Frank Lampard pull just keeps getting stronger and stronger. That's what we call a Chelsea legend.
There is a select number of managers that midfielders would love to play under. Frank Lampard is one of them. Once a near-complete midfielder in his day, admired by many in the younger generation. It's a bitter-sweet move as a Chelsea fan. Dele Alli was the thorn in Chelsea's shoes not too long ago.
Lampard believes that he can revitalise the 25-year-old's career despite both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte's struggles. I'm not entirely sure about revitalising his career, however, if he could put in the same effort he put into Mason Mount, we may see an Everton revival.
£40 million. That's said to be how much Frank Lampard is willing to pay to bring Dele Alli over from north London. With the plethora of options that Everton have in midfield, I fear that an extra addition could give Lampard some difficulty in choosing his starting eleven. A nice problem to have to be fair.
Alli has shown his potential as an attacking midfielder previously. His best years at Tottenham came at such a young age. It feels weird to even think that he is only 25-years-old considering the number of impactful games that he has had under Mauricio Pochettino.
Despite his current form, there is definitely still a player in there that can be saved and his potential could be fulfilled with the right coach.
The proof is in the pudding. Not only has Pochettino previously sung of the midfielders praise, but Sir Alex Ferguson was also an admirer.
He urged Jose Mourinho to sign him for Manchester United back when the Roma boss was at the club. Mourinho himself also did not give up on him easily during his time at Tottenham. Eventually, their relationship went downhill with Mourinho questioning Alli's desire to play football at all.
The dynamic Dele Alli of old could be revived under Lampard who seems to have a way with homegrown talent. He cultivated the likes of Reece James, Tammy Abraham and of course Mason Mount. The aforementioned players worked hard under him and developed their path to becoming the best that they can be.
On an attacking sense, Chelsea fans know too well how much Super Frank loves an attacking style of play. This will be more suited for Alli as he will be able to create and potentially see a lot more of the ball. He clearly does not suit in a Mourinho or Conte defensive regime, so how about an attacking one.
Lampard's skill of developing young talent will be crucial for Dele Alli. He may not have heaps of experience but for some reason, I am very confident in his capability to revive Alli's career.
Maybe because he turned Mason Mount into the attacking beast that he is today. Not only has Mount's game developed massively under the former Derby County and Chelsea boss, but he was also allowed the freedom to express himself and become the main man of the team.
Alli was once the main man of the midfield at Tottenham Hotspur. That's where he thrived best. Let's see if Lampard can work his Mount magic and turn Everton's season back around.
