Paul McParlan - Midfield is where games are won and lost
The lack of pace in Everton’s midfield was a major factor in the club being drawn into a relegation battle. Too often Everton were overrun in the middle of the park as any combination of Allan , Dele Alli, Tom Davies, Fabian Delph and Andre Gomes exhibited a woeful lack of acceleration, leaving the defence exposed.
This season, the arrival of Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye combined with the tireless energy of the reborn Iwobi have transformed Everton’s fortunes. Their pace and power combined with their ability to regain possession, anticipate danger and track the runs of opponents have added an extra layer of cover for the defence.

And the way they can swiftly launch counterattacks with devastating bursts of speed have made Everton a far more potent force going forward. Midfield is where games are won and lost and this injection of pace and power is moving Everton up the table.
Tony Scott - Everton are not a soft touch anymore
An air of confidence is sweeping through the Everton fanbase at the moment and that is all down to one man - Frank Lampard. The start of the season has been a positive one with the foundations built from the back via Connor Coady and James Tarkowski.
For Everton to statically have the best defence in the Premier League is some effort considering they've swapped personnel and formation. Full credit again goes to all at Finch Farm and the recruitment team, because of that, Everton are not a soft touch anymore.

Kevin Thelwell and Frank Lampard take a bow! After years of poor transfer windows and recruitment failures it seems we may finally have people in charge that have a clear vision for the squad and its future.
Dwight McNeil will be soon hoping to add his name to a list of summer acquisitions that have already boasted almost universal success, especially after his stunning winning goal at Saint Mary’s on Saturday afternoon.
His first competitive goal for the Blues will hopefully go some way to allowing McNeill to rediscover his confidence and we can then hope to add him onto a list of impressive summer deals that include the likes of Conor Coady, James Tarkowski, Amadou Onana and beyond.
