Frank Lampard admits it would be ‘naïve’ to guarantee Anthony Gordon will stay at Everton amid Chelsea links

Frank Lampard says it would be “naïve” to make guarantees to Everton fans that Anthony Gordon would stay at the club this summer.

The England U21 international has emerged as one of Thomas Tuchel’s key targets during what remains of the summer transfer window, with the west London club having seen two bids rejected.

Sources close to the situation suggest a bid of around £50m would be enough to reach a breakthrough in talks between the two clubs.

While Lampard once again stressed his desire to keep the 21-year-old at the club, although a larger bid could tempt the club into a sale as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Reports have suggested Gordon is keen on moving to Chelsea as talks continue between the two clubs.

Speaking ahead of Everton’s meeting with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Lampard said: "Anthony Gordon is an Everton player, and that’s it for me, I don’t want to talk about hypotheticals.

"He’s in the squad for tomorrow, any chats I have with him are private.

"He is an Everton player... he has got a huge value to the team and to me."

“You can’t ask me to assure anything, it’ll be naive of me to assure anything. I can’t assure I’ll be here by the end of the window.”
