Francesco Totti isn't surprised by Mohamed Salah change at Liverpool

Having ultimately failed in his first stint in the Premier League with Chelsea, Mohamed Salah's impact at Liverpool was initially something of a surprise to fans in England.

Now four and a half seasons into his Reds career, the Egyptian is a Premier League and Champions League winner and has scored 148 goals from 231 appearances, making a mockery of any doubts following his £36m move from AS Roma in 2017.

However, his former captain in the eternal city, Francesco Totti, never doubted the forward.

And ahead of Salah reuniting with his former Roma strike partner Edin Dzeko when Liverpool take on Inter Milan at the San Siro on Wednesday night, the Italy legend has been reminiscing about his time playing with the duo.

“They [Dzeko and Salah] were so strong together. An amazing attacking partnership,” Totti told La Gazzetta dello Sport, cited by Football Italia.

“It’s no coincidence that Dzeko scored so many goals thanks to Salah’s assists becoming the Serie A’s Capocannoniere with 29 goals.”

Meanwhile, former Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini was responsible for bringing the Egyptian to the club.

And he's explained how the forward's game has changed since moving to Anfield, allowing him to reach new heights and arguably become the best player in the world.

“Salah has become a lethal goalscorer in Liverpool, I am sure it will be amazing to see them play tomorrow,” he told Gazzetta.

“Signing two players like him and Dzeko made me love my job even more.

“I’ve always known that Salah could have scored many goals. Now he has the space to hurt.

“In Italy, he also had defensive duties, but he’s always had the characteristics to score consistently.”
