Former Great British Bake Off Champion Frances Quinn has smashed the current world record, held by herself, for the world’s biggest Jaffa Cake. The record-breaking creation took over 11 hours to complete from start to finish, using 16kg flour, 160 eggs, and 8kg of melted chocolate, and took 160 minutes to bake in the oven.
The feat clocked in at 80kg, with a diameter of 175cm. Frances tackled the feat with alongside Will McMath, Product Development Specialist, and the McVitie’s team in celebration of 15 th series of Britain’s Got Talent. Frances and her team of three helpers constructed the gigantic Jaffa Cake at the McVitie’s innovation bakery in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The whole process took over 12 hours to cook.
The new world record for the biggest Jaffa Cake ever baked is 79.9 kg heavier than the traditional Jaffa Cake found in shops. The treat was served to guests and crew at the Britain’s Got Talent live semi-finals outside the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, producing over 300 servings.
Frances wowed audiences with her impressive skills during the fourth season of Great British Bake Off in 2013. Since leaving the show in 2013, the baker turned author has turned her eye to producing bespoke creations and in 2016 launched her own cookbook. Frances partnered with McVitie’s as a continuation of their Golden Moments campaign, which aims to spread positivity and fun across the nation. The campaign also includes the opportunity to win money-can't-buy prizes for viewers at home including tickets to the live BGT finals.
Frances said: “It was an absolute pleasure to partner with McVitie’s to beat the record I set five years ago, it was great to celebrate the 15 th birthday of Britain’s Got Talent with such an iconic cake, I hope audiences watching the show at the live semi-finals enjoyed tucking in and celebrating the contestants this year.’’
