France vs Morocco prediction and odds ahead of World Cup 2022 semi-final showdown

No nation has won back-to-back World Cups since Brazil in 1962 but France are only two games away from becoming just the third side in history to complete this historic feat.

The first of those games is a semi-final against Morocco in the Al Bayt Stadium on Wednesday night and it's a game France will expect to win. So, too, do the bookmakers who make Les Blues just 8/15 (with Betfred) to do what Spain and Portugal could not and score the goal that will knock Morocco out of this tournament.

The North Africans, who are already the first team from that continent to make it to a World Cup semi-final, are 13/2 to continue their remarkable run and make it to the final.

And Walid Regragui remarkably well-organised and disciplined side should not be underestimated. They have conceded just a single own goal in five matches in Qatar and neither Spain nor Portugal could generate an xG total greater than 1.0 against them, despite both sides dominating possession stats. It really is going to take something special to break this Morrocan defence down but in Kylian Mbappe, they face the most special of attacking talents.

It could easily be argued that France were a little fortunate to edge past England in the quarter-finals but they have got this far without at least four first-team regulars so the sheer depth to their talent pool shouldn't go unrecognised.

Mbappe didn't have a particularly golod game against England - he was kept quiet by Kyle Walker for the most part, but he remains the biggest threat to Morocco's goal and the PSG star will want to secure the Golden Boot award with another tournament goal.

Mbappe is just 11/10 to strike during the standard 90 minutes and 11/4 to open the scoring on the night.

France vs Morocco Prediction

Morocco are sweating on the fitness of key cenrte-back and captain Romain Saiss who was stretchered off after 57 minutes on Saturday. Saiss has been a rock at the heart of the Moroccan defence and the North Africans will struggle to cope with this French attack without the Besiktas man.

The longer this goes on the tougher it is going to get for France but any early strike might just open the way for a fairly comfortable French victory. Given the quality of their attacking options, back France to be leading at half time and full time, which is a tasty 11/8 with Betfred.

France vs Morocco Prediction: France/France (HT/FT) - 11/8
