Well thank you so much for joining me for this match! A huge result for Jamaica and France will be ruing the chances they did not convert. We will be back tomorrow with live coverage on the World Cup! See you then and catch up with the France v Jamaica action:

Updated

Here are the reports from the earlier games today:

What are your thoughts on the red? Here’s the clip of the second yellow (some may not be able to view it as the clip is from ITV):

Even without Shaw, Jamaica have a good chance of beating Panama next time out. If they came away with a win it would see Jamaica with four points and puts them in a great position to progress to the knock-outs. This point is such a big result.

Dali will be hoping her second half performance will be enough to win her a starting shirt which is a similar story for England’s Rachel Daly. She has spoken at her frustration of Alessia Russo getting the nod at nine:

France did lack some sting in their attack, it transformed with the introduction of Dali, but they are really missing Katoto. Katoto has not played since the the Euros last summer because of an ACL injury.

Despite the red card Jamaica had a great performance. Before she was sent off Shaw was incredible in attack and drawing mistakes from France. I also thought Spence, Spencer, Blackwood and Swaby were particularly stand-out.

Usually red cards are debated but I think the Shaw one if the cleanest decision you’ll see. Two bookable challenges saw her off meaning she will miss Jamaica’s next game against Panama.

Full-time: France 0-0 Jamaica

What a result for Jamaica! They have won their first ever point at a World Cup. France had the chances to find a winner but they couldn’t find it. The only sour taste for Jamaica is that red card for Shaw.

90 + 7 min: France keep coming but Jamaica are doing the most to keep them out. Spence is fouled on the edge of the box – what a great evening the Tottenham player has had.

90 + 6 min: A huge roar as Spencer collects another cross in. The keeper has had a great evening.

90 + 5 min: Spencer take a bow. A captain down, France peppering the goal and the keeper makes two great interventions. She punches a chance away and then saves a Diani chance. Huge.

90 + 4 min: Jamaica need to hold on now, the red card cannot lead to a France winner. They have performed so well, just a few minutes to defend and hold up play.

90 + 3 min: That was needless, the tackle came in deep in France’s half – no immediate threat. Shaw will now miss the next game, a thoughtless move.

RED CARD! France 0-0 Jamaica (Shaw, 90+2')

A silly tackle made on Renard and Shaw gets a second yellow. Wow.

90 + 1 min: There will be six minutes added, time for a winner to be found.

90 min: OH MY GOD! Diani has a header and it hits the crossbar and then the left-hand post, jeez. I thought that was in for sure!

Updated

89 min: Dali takes the corner and Lakrar leaps for a header, it is marginally over the bar! Wow, that was so close.

88 min: France are trying to find a winner here, if this remains a draw it will be a good result for Jamaica. Possession exchanging hands but France come through, Swaby concedes a corner.

87 min: Blackwood takes the corner, it’s frantic in the box and Shaw does get a shot off. It’s wide and the chance is gone.

86 min: Karchaoui is fouled by Wiltshire but the French player handballs and so the free kick goes Jamaica’s way. The free kick is in their own half and Spencer takes it. France manage to clear but they immediately see it out of play. Shaw then expertly wins a corner, could this be the moment?

84 min: Dali took it but it is easily dealt with.

84 min: France win a corner and Dali takes it quickly, Renard makes contact but Wiltshire clears! It comes back and out for another France corner. Also I realise my last post was not that clear, Shaw hobbled off to wait to come back on after she received treatment.

82 min: Shaw is okay to continue, great news for Jamaica but she is hobbling off the pitch.

81 min: I think she was fouled by Toletti, Shaw was gripping her lower leg and ankle. She is getting treatment now, definitely looks to be an ankle issue.

80 min: Cross is so deep, not a good take and a wasted opportunity. France come again but Jamaica do enough to disrupt them. Spence has been really good in making the France play uncomfortable for them. Shaw is down again, this time in a lot of pain.

78 min: Karchaoui in on the fancy footwork to win a throw in. It comes into the box but Diani can’t get on the end of it – France now having the majority of chances. Becho looks to cross in again and Blackwood makes another valuable intervention – she does concede a corner.

76 min: Blackwood hits a great ball but no Jamaica player is there to collect, unless that was a shot at goal? If it was that was very ambitious! Dali is fouled by Wiltshire and they take it on halfway. It comes to Diani who passes to Le Sommer – her shot is saved by Spencer.

74 min: She is accidentally hit in the head by Renard’s elbow but she is back up and okay.

73 min: The footwork from Dali! She weaves herself through the defenders, Jamaica manage to repel the attack but Dali has certainly brought another aspect to the game. Shaw is down once again with injury after a challenge from Renard.

72 min: Becho has another great cross but Spencer confidently collects. Wiltshire is fouled by Karchaoui and Jamaica have a free kick in their own half. Before they take it Primus and Matthews are off for Jamaica and Washington and Solaun are on. The free kick is taken but they are building from deep – a shot from Shaw is blocked from Cascarino.

70 min: Karchaoui looks frustrated as she believes she was fouled but the referee doesn’t give anything. The rain has started to pelt it down but it is not dampening the action as France come again, Karchaoui’s cross is closed down by Blackwood.

68 min: France make the first change with Majri and Mateo off for Dali and Becho. Becho is immediately in the action with a thumping long pass but she can’t quite find Le Sommer. The ball then comes to Dali, her cross is brilliant to Diani but her header is wide.

66 min: Toletti passes to Geyoro who tries to get a shot away but she’s offside. A huge pass comes to Matthews in the box but her shot is saved by Peyraud-Magnin. And there is immediate response from France but Toletti’s cross does not reach a teammate. A goal is coming!

64 min: The chance eventually comes to Spence on the edge of the box, she tries to find Shaw but it doesn’t reach her. Jamaica do have a throw in though with Swaby taking it. Shaw thought she had won a corner but it’s a goal kick.

62 min: Swaby looked as though she got a bit winded there but she is okay to continue. Jamaica win a free kick through Spence deep in their own half, they are building from deep as Spencer takes the kick.

60 min: France set up another attack with Lakrar laying it off into the box. Diani attempts a back heel pass but Jamaica deal with it. Kari has got in touch and said: “Les Bleues seem underprepared, which isn’t what I expect from a side coached by Hervé Renard. I’m worried that my pre-tournament prediction of France having an outside chance of the title might not age well.” I think they are growing into this game but I do agree the France prediction may not age well. I think they will get to the last eight.

58 min: Majri takes the corner, it’s a good delivery but it’s headed clear for another corner. Mateo takes it this time and Shaw deals with it to start, it comes to Toletti whose shot is over the bar.

57 min: Brown gets into the box and tries to lay it off to Shaw but France manage to clear. France get the ball in a good position and Lakrar attempts to cross but Brown sees it out for another corner.

56 min: France are full of beans now but Blackwood continues to be excellent in defence. She manages to keep Majri off the ball and out for a goal kick.

54 min: Majri is back at the set piece but Blackwood clears. It comes back with Le Sommer crossing to Diani but her header isn’t on target.

53 min: Possession is exchanging hands so quickly! It eventually comes away with a France attack, Lakrar crosses in but Blackwood deflects out, a corner to come.

52 min: Brown is gripping her back but she is up and okay to continue.

51 min: Brown is down again after a collision with Lakrar, she looks in some pain. A break in play.

50 min: Diani handballs outside the area to settle this half a bit, frantic in keeping possession from both sides.

49 min: Mateo takes it but Swaby heads away and now Jamaica are on the counter. A pass between Shaw and Brown has too much on it and the chance is gone.

48 min: Mateo takes it this time and it comes in but Blackwood hits it out of play – a corner to come.

47 min: Spence makes an error and Le Sommer makes a break. The ball comes to Majri but Matthews’ recovery run is good – she does concede a free kick here.

47 min: Lakrar fouls Brown and Jamaica win a free kick early in this second half. It’s thumped in but Renard heads away.

Back underway! France 0-0 Jamaica

Will a winner be found? Or will the game remain in a deadlock? Will we soon find out.

Another piece to get your teeth into:

Here is a report on the Netherlands v Portugal match:

From the WSL we all know Shaw is an electric player but she is proving to be a thorn in the side of France. She’s causing them to concede set pieces in dangerous position, if Jamaica score she will be at the heart of it.

Half-time: France 0-0 Jamaica

The scoreboard may suggest a little amount of action but this has been a good half of football. France not up to the standard we would expect but Jamaica have been impressive – particularly through Shaw and Swaby.

45 + 6 min: The corner pings in but France can’t convert. Wow, France have sprung to life!

45 + 5 min: Spencer concedes a corner with a save. The set piece comes in but France can’t get a player on the end of it. The team get into the box again with Diani with a shot, it takes a deflection from Swaby and another corner!

45 + 4 min: Majri takes the kick but the referee pulls it back for fouls in the box. France takes it again, a good delivery but Wiltshire defends well.

45 + 3 min: France have a great attack but Lakrar’s pass isn’t on target. Le Sommer makes a good run but Blackwood wrestles her off the ball, she does concede a free kick though.

45 + 1 min: There will be five minutes added here.

44 min: Mateo wins a free kick but France will have to build from deep here and a slight loose pass to Renard stifles them. Possession exchanges hands again and ends with Renard apologising for a poor pass which is straight out.

42 min: Blackwood is over the set piece ball again but it is Shaw who takes the kick. She thumps it and it is just wide! Jamaica’s closest effort so far.

41 min: Swaby, again, does really well to repel a France chance. Spence is then fouled to thwart the France pressure. Jamaica get the ball upfield and Shaw wins another free kick – this time in a great position.

39 min: Shaw is involved in another foul but this time she is the perpetrator, she fouls Karchaoui and gets a yellow card. She is not happy she has been booked. There’s a slight break in play before France get the game back underway.

37 min: France win it back in the midfield and Mateo passes to Diani in the box, her shot is on target but Spencer sees it behind for a corner. Majri takes the corner and it almost finds Renard but Spencer makes a good save – the closest this game has come to an opener.

Updated

36 min: France win it back but are stuck in the midfield at the moment. Karchaoui has a loose pass and it comes to Shaw, she looks to counter and Toletti fouls her to stop her. Blackwood takes the long range free kick and it bundles around, it doesn’t come off and they see it back to Spencer.

34 min: Karchaoui is fouled and France have a free kick in their own half. Majri takes it but they have to build from deep. Renard passes to Lakrar but she sees it out with Jamaica in possession once more.

32 min: France have had moments of threatening but Jamaica are the stronger team overall.

Updated

30 min: Shaw has taken another blow to the head but she doesn’t receive treatment – she is taking a lot of blows today.

28 min: Majri takes the free kick and Renard gets a head to it but Spencer collects. First chance on target I think.

28 min: Jamaica take the pace out of the match with some passes at the back but when they try to start an attack in the midfield Le Sommer is fouled by Spence – a France free kick to come.

26 min: Blackwood makes a great intervention to stop the slick French passes. Mateo does get the ball in the box but does not find a French teammate. Shaw is a nuisance up the other end if the pitch but France manage to contain her – for now.

24 min: Renard with an error as she sees the ball out of play and Swaby takes the throw in. It’s gets into the box but France repel it and are off on the counter. Geyoro is on a good run but Primus pulls her back – yellow card given.

23 min: Swaby’s pass has too much on it to gift the ball back to France. Lakrar passes to Geyoro but she is offside.

21 min: So many battles in France’s box at the moment, it is all Jamaica. Jamaica have had more of the ball and more chances but France look more clinical when they do get the ball. A goalless affair so far but far from a boring one.

20 min: Possession is exchanging hands so quickly at the moment. France have an attack now though, Karchaoui gets in a good position but again Matthews contains her.

18 min: Shaw does extremely well to win the ball, what an asset she is to this team, but it takes a while for Jamaica to get it in a good position and eventually France win it back.

17 min: Shaw is fouled again, this time by Cascarino. It’s almost in the exact same spot as the previous free kick, Blackwood will take this once more. It comes in and it bundles around but France eventually deal with it.

15 min: Shaw makes a great run and all Mateo can do is hack her down to stop her – earning her a yellow card. Jamaica will have a free kick as a result. Blackwood has a good delivery and Swaby gets a head to it, frantic defence from France but the shot is wide.

Updated

14 min: Brown, who went down in the build-up to Mateo’s pass, is up and is okay to continue – a physical start.

13 min: Mateo with a delicious lay off to Lakrar but her cross has too much on it. Brown is down with an injury here so we have a slight break in play.

12 min: Shaw fouls Geyoro and France have a free kick. Majri is over the set piece ball again, it’s a great delivery to Renard but she can’t convert. Swaby, again, comes to Jamaica’s rescue again. This has been a lively start from both sides.

10 min: A lovely ball comes to Geyoro and she gets a swift cross in but Swaby heads away and out for a France corner. Majri takes the set piece but it is easily cleared.

8 min: Shaw puts huge pressure on Peyraud-Magnin, the keeper has to come out of her goal to deal with a ball but her clearance is poor because of Shaw’s high press. Karchaoui passes a great ball but Wiltshire does enough to deter Diani.

7 min: An uncontested dropped ball gets the play back underway and they duel with France coming away with possession. Jamaica do deal with it well, winning it back and passing back to keeper Spencer – who many will recognise from the WSL at Tottenham.

5 min: Shaw and Renard are two of the biggest stars at this tournament, thankfully both are okay to continue. Shaw looks to have come off worse, she remains on the floor for a longer time than Renard.

4 min: Blackwood takes the corner and targets Shaw but instead of the ball she clashes heads with Renard. Both players are down here and in need of some treatment, hopefully they are okay.

3 min: Almost an error there from Renard as she was closed down while passing back but she manages to recover. Matthews is fouled and they have a free kick. It is thundered into the box but Renard heads away, out for a corner.

2 min: France start by being patient on the ball, taking their time to form an attack but Jamaica are smart to the play and are smothering any breathing space they have so far.

Kick-off! France 0-0 Jamaica

Here we go then! We are underway. It is the first time France and Jamaica have faced one another on a women’s international stage.

The players are out and the anthems will soon follow. Any predictions for this one? Let me know.

Kurt has got in touch via email with more the info I hadn’t put in a previous post about France’s coach, saying: “Never forget that Hervé Renard managed Saudi Arabia to the biggest upset in men’s World Cup history that 2-1 victory against eventual men’s World Cup Champions Argentina in Qatar in November.”

Unlike France and Jamaica my TV has decided it doesn’t want to play ball and so I am watching from the website, always when I want it to work it doesn’t! But aside from my personal stress, the game is almost underway. The players will be out shortly.

And some things you should know about France’s coach: “Hervé Renard replaced the controversial (but relatively successful) Diacre in March, but has yet to put his stamp on the team. Despite having no previous experience in charge of a women’s team, he does have experience at international level and has also overachieved in tournaments at short notice in the past, including winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia in 2012. At international level, Renard has often played a 4-2-3-1, but has also experimented with three at the back. For France, he is likely to opt for the former, but could also play with three in midfield.” Read the full guide:

Here is some information on Jamaica’s star player from our guide on the country: “Jamaica’s all-time leading scorer with 56 goals, Khadija “Bunny” Shaw’s career is one of bumps, bruises and of course, tremendous success. The 6ft striker’s physicality and speed of thought had set her up for a dazzling career from a young age – aged 14 she played for Jamaica’s under-15, under-17 and under-20 teams. She made her debut for the senior side on 23 August 2015, scoring once in a 6-0 win over the Dominican Republic. She has lost siblings to violence and accidents but used those tragedies to fuel her passion for football.” Read the full piece:

England did not have it all their own way against Haiti: “For a side whose success in the Euros last summer depended so heavily on their ability in defence, they were made to look fragile, and at times chaotic, by a fast and tenacious Haiti side who took the game to the European champions.” Read the full piece:

Have you listened to our women’s football podcast? The latest episode focuses on England’s performance against Haiti:

The weather where I am in Bath is a bit hit and miss today, I hope it’s better where you are. What are your plans for Sunday? I have watched Barbie and Oppenheimer over the past few days and so I will most likely spend the evening deep diving into reviews and opinions on those! Let me know via Twitter or email.

Here’s something for you to catch up on the earlier game:

The Netherlands v Portugal is still ongoing with the former winning 1-0 as things stand. The goal came from Stefanie van der Gragt who will retire at the end of the World Cup. Keep up to date:

There has been a lot going on in the background of France’s team with Wendie Renard initially saying she would not play at the tournament. But Renard and others taking a protest has seen change, read the pieces below for the full story:

The team news is here!

France starting XI: Peyraud-Magnin; Lakrar, Renard, Karchaoui, Cascarino; Toletti, Geyoro, Majri; Le Sommer, Diani, Mateo

Jamaica starting XI: Spencer; Sampson, Swaby, Wiltshire; Spence, Brown, Blackwood, Primus; Shaw, Matthews.

Preamble

It’s day three of the World Cup and what a day it has already been! Sweden staged a comeback against South Africa with Amanda Ilestedt scoring the winner in the 90th minute. The Netherlands are currently playing Portugal but we now turn to the third game of the day in France v Jamaica.

The favourites in this one will be France but with how some matches have gone in the tournament so far the French will not underestimate Jamaica. Jamaica qualified for their second World Cup for this tournament and will want to go one better than in 2019 where they did not get out of the group.

France, meanwhile, have a best result of the semi-finals in 2011. They are a team people haven’t been throwing in as favourites to win the tournament but they could be dark horses if their performances at Euro 2022 are anything to go by.

The teams will be releasing their team news shortly so do stay tuned ahead of kick-off in an hour’s time.
