French Prime Minister Jean Castex said Wednesday that France wanted to end its imports of Russian gas and oil by 2027. Castex made the remarks at a news conference to unveil government measures to help households, companies, farmers and fishermen mitigate the impact on the French economy of sanctions against Russia.

"We have to prepare for a long crisis", Castex said.

The war in Ukraine has accentuated in particular a rise in prices of energy and other commodities, including wheat, that could weigh on French households and the economy.

The total cost of the measures would be between €25 billion and €26 billion, Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said at the same news conference along Castex.
