Tourists planning a trip to France are being warned to stay up to date on the country's latest travel advice, as civil unrest continues.
Since Tuesday, demonstrations have broken out in Paris and across the country, with protestors clashing with riot police in violent altercations. Authorities are warning Brits of potential travel disruptions, imposed curfews and riot breakouts at a moment's notice.
The Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice, urging any travellers to monitor news and check the latest advice with operators. The government body regularly issues travel advice to inform British nationals about various updates in different countries - ranging from health, terrorism, security, local laws, entry requirements, natural disasters and money.
Updating its guidance on Friday, FCDO said: "Since 27 June, riots have taken place across France. Many have turned violent. Shops, public buildings and parked cars have been targeted. There may be disruptions to road travel and local transport provision may be reduced.
"Some local authorities may impose curfews. Locations and timing of riots are unpredictable. You should monitor the media, avoid areas where riots are taking place, check the latest advice with operators when travelling and follow the advice of the authorities."
French authorities have also banned a planned rally previously due to take place in Paris on July 1 over security risks, with connected events still going ahead in the suburbs and any Brits considering attending such meetings are being asked to reconsider, be aware of surroundings and move quickly away from disturbances.
This upheaval comes after the death of a 17 year-old boy allegedly shot by armed police during a routine traffic stop. Videos have surfaced online of two officers stopping a yellow car in the Parisian suburb of Nanterre, driven by a teen named locally as Nahel M.
Footage shows both officers leaning in the window with guns in hand before the car quickly drives away, with one officer firing towards it. A separate clip then shows the same car crashed into a pole.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The the officer in question has been charged with homicide and is being held in custody.
