France travel warning as FCO advice updated amid strike action

A warning has been issued to Brits heading to France this week that they could face “disruption” due to strike action. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office updated its guidance for the country ahead of cross-sector strike action on Tuesday, March 7.

Walk-outs are taking place across France throughout Tuesday, which could cause delays to services. According to the FCDO, the industrial action could start the evening before and may last several days.

The FCDO said: “Several unions have called for rolling cross-sector strike action and demonstrations across France from Tuesday 7 March. Industrial action may start the evening before the strike day and run for several days.

“Localised or sector-specific strikes could also occur outside these dates. Industrial action may lead to disruption to services.”

Holidaymakers have been urged to check the latest advice before travelling and to avoid any demonstrations. Travellers are advised to check the guidance of local authorities while in France.

Regarding demonstrations in France, the FCDO added: “If demonstrations do turn violent, a heavy police/gendarmerie presence is to be expected. In all cases, you should avoid demonstrations wherever possible and follow the advice of the local authorities.”
