France’s interior minister announced on Tuesday that additional measures have been taken to prevent the return of one of Osama bin Laden's sons, Omar bin Laden, to France. Omar had been residing in Normandy, France, but left the country in October 2023 after his residency papers were revoked by French authorities, who also issued a two-year ban on his return.
The Interior Ministry disclosed that an extra prohibition has now been imposed to ensure that Omar bin Laden is unable to re-enter France under any circumstances. Reports indicate that he currently resides in Qatar, having relocated there after leaving France.
Previously, Omar bin Laden had been living in Normandy with his British wife since 2016, where he pursued a career as an artist. However, his attempts to challenge the ban on his return to France were unsuccessful, as confirmed by a recent legal ruling.
The French Interior Minister cited social media posts sympathetic to terrorism as the reason for ordering Omar bin Laden to leave the country. Omar's father, Osama bin Laden, who orchestrated the infamous September 11, 2001 attacks, was killed in a U.S. military operation in Pakistan in 2011.
