France-based former Saint Glory Nzingo among 24 called up for Ireland under-19 training camp

Former St Patrick’s Athletic midfielder Glory Nzingo is among the new faces in Tom Mohan’s Ireland under-19 squad for a training camp in Loughborough later this month.

The Dubliner, who joined Stade de Reims in France from the Saints over the summer months, has previously represented his country up to under-15 level.

Former Cherry Orchard schoolboy Nzingo made his senior debut for the Athletic at the age of 14, in a friendly against Chelsea in summer 2019, and helped the Saints under-19s to the league title in 2020.

17-year-old Nzingo hasn’t been involved in the international set-up since making the move to France but has impressed Mohan enough to go straight into the 19s set-up.

Nzingo isn’t the only European-based player in the squad as Spanish-born duo Anselmo Garcia McNulty of Wolfsburg and John Joe Patrick Finn Beno of Getafe also feature.

The training camp has been convened to screen some of the fringe players ahead of the Elite Round of European Championship qualification next month and will finish with a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Ireland will have to top a tough group that includes hosts England, Portugal and Armenia if they are to reach the finals in Slovakia this summer.

Mohan's men face England on March 23, Portugal on March 26 and Armenia on March 29 as they look to continue their streak of qualifying for the finals.

Players involved at senior club level like James Abankwah, who recently joined Serie A side Udinese from the Athletic, and Shamrock Rovers’ Aidomo Emakhu, will stay with their clubs.

Goalkeepers: Conor Brann (Galway United), Arlo Doherty (Leicester City), Aaron Maguire (Tottenham Hotspur), Owen Mason (Guiseley Town, on loan from Mansfield Town)

Defenders: Anselmo Garcia MacNulty (Wolfsburg), Sean Grehan (Bohemians), Ben Mason (AFC Wimbledon), Harry Nevin (Preston North End), David Okagbue (Chester City, on loan from Stoke City), John Ryan (Shamrock Rovers), Josh Seary (Preston North End), Trey Turner (Oldham Athletic)

Midfielders: Kailin Barlow (Sligo Rovers), John Joe Patrick Finn Benoa (Getafe), Jack Francis (Arsenal), Oisin Gallagher (Lincoln City), Ed McJannet (Luton Town), Kofi Moore (Oldham Athletic), Glory Nzingo (Stade de Reims), Harry Vaughan (Oldham Athletic)

Forwards: Billy Brooks (Lincoln City), Dylan Gavin (Charlton Athletic), Ola Ibrahim (Derby County), Cian Kelly Caprani (Derby County)
