The FPL Banger boys are back with a midweek edition of their FPL tips, and Chelsea players are their main fancies for Week 14.
Welcome back to our Fantasy Premier League series for the 2024/25 season, provided by Siva & Sam, the twisted minds behind the weekly FPL Banger Podcast.
After our successful Salah captaincy last week, it’s time to cook again.
FPL Week 14 Tips
BEST CAPTAIN
Cole Palmer (£11.0m) – Southampton (A)
Cole Palmer non-owners were given a reminder of his capabilities this past weekend as the Chelsea star returned 14 points against Aston Villa. And he could have had even more – Villa gave away one of those rare indirect free kicks in the penalty box, but Palmer couldn’t convert.
Next up for Palmer is Southampton, who managed a 1-1 draw against Brighton, but at what cost? Key players like Flynn Downes, Tyler Dibling, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis are all suspended this week, not to mention that Aaron Ramsdale remains injured. Captaincy doesn’t get much easier than this.
(C)ole for me.
TOP PICKS
Robert Sanchez (£4.8m) – Southampton (A)
This is one of those picks that I will definitely regret tomorrow morning, but the cold hard facts are that Robert Sanchez has the best fixture run possible from now until the end of January, playing Southampton, Everton, Fulham, Ipswich, Crystal Palace, and Wolves in his next 9 games.
Yes, Sanchez exudes little to no confidence and could be replaced at a moment’s notice by one of Chelsea’s 15 other goalkeepers, but the fixtures are good, Maresca seems to back him, and they’re fresh off a clean sheet against Aston Villa. Maresca’s solution of playing Moises Caicedo at right back also looks to be working a treat, helping to tighten things at the back. Maybe it is time to give Rob another chance in FPL.
Joe Gomez (£4.8m) – Newcastle (A)
A cheap, promising young English defender playing for Liverpool? When has this ever failed in FPL? Never. Guaranteed points. What’s a Quansah? No idea what you’re on about.
Look, the past can hurt. But you can either run from it or learn from it. That’s what Rafiki said in The Lion King. And just like Simba defeated the evil overlord who ruled with an iron fist and deprived the people of any happiness, Arne Slot just defeated Pep.
So in short, Joe Gomez is good – at least while Konate is out, which should be a while. And in all seriousness. Liverpool could keep a clean sheet against anyone, including a Newcastle team that managed a grand total of zero (0) shots on target against Crystal Palace.
Brennan Johnson (£6.7m) – Bournemouth (A)
When we selected Brennan Johnson in this position for GW13, people laughed. Well, you’re not laughing now. Johnson is now the only Premier League player besides Erling Haaland and Mo Salah with 10 goals in all competitions this season. He’s perfected the art of the tap-in, and for all Bournemouth’s positive qualities under Andoni Iraola, they do concede a fair few goals, as Jorgen Strand-Larsen owners will tell you.
Fully backing Johnson to keep this run going as he remains the one bright spark in a very inconsistent Spurs team.
Nicolas Jackson (£8.1m) – Southampton (A)
You might not know it, but Jackson has returned 18 goal involvements in his last 21 games for Chelsea. He has fought his way to become the first choice forward for the 3rd-best team in the league, so much so that FPL villain Christopher Nkunku has been relegated to cameos and Europa Conference League games.
Jackson has continued to score all while walking a suspension tightrope with four goals. I’m old enough to remember the time I avoided Diego Costa in FPL when he was on 4 yellows, and he proceeded to score week after week while avoiding a yellow; I’m not making that mistake again. Jackson in for a banker against a Southampton team without their first choice keeper, first choice centre back, and first choice central midfielder feels like a sure win.
