Fantasy football expert FPL Pingreen provides you with three player picks and his captain choice for FPL GW13.
Hello FPL fans! My name is Pingreen, and I’m back to share my top picks for Gameweek 13 and beyond, right here on SportsCasting. I finished 700th in the world in 2022/23 and ranked 1,330th last season, so be sure to take my advice seriously!
If the last Gameweek left you scratching your head as aggressively as Pep Guardiola, these GW13 picks should help you get back on track.
FPL Pingreen’s GW13 Picks
Captain Pick
Cole Palmer (£10.9m) – AVL (H)
This is the first week in a while that I’m not recommending putting the armband on Mo Salah or Erling Haaland. With those two juggernauts facing off at Anfield, I believe there are better options this Gameweek.
The standout choice for me is Cole Palmer. Owners were left frustrated last week when the Chelsea man blanked against Leicester – partly due to his own teammate blocking his shot off the line.
But don’t let one bad week discourage you. Palmer is still averaging the second-highest xGI per 90 in the league at 0.88, only behind Erling Haaland. I’m backing him to have a big bounce-back performance at home against Aston Villa.
Defender
Jurrien Timber (£5.5m) – WHU (A)
Arsenal currently boasts one of the best defences in the league, having conceded the second-fewest actual and expected goals.
The primary debate has often been between Gabriel and Saliba, but I think the relatively new boy, Jurrien Timber, might now be the best choice.
Priced at £5.5m, he saves you at least £0.5m compared to Saliba and even more compared to Gabriel. His minutes now seem secure, with Ben White ruled out for “months,” according to manager Mikel Arteta. Best of all, if you’ve watched his recent starts, you’ll have noticed him getting into promising attacking positions, even registering an assist in their midweek game against Sporting Lisbon.
Midfielder
Bryan Mbeumo (£7.4m) – LEI (H)
After two blanks in his last three appearances, I’ve noticed some chatter on social media about moving on from Bryan Mbeumo. Absolute madness.
First, his £7.4m price tag is still excellent value for a midfielder averaging 0.38 xGI per 90, who’s on penalty duty and has 9 goal contributions in the league this season.
Even more importantly, he has a plum home fixture against Leicester this Gameweek – a team that has conceded 21 goals in 12 games this season. Sure, they’ve just sacked Steve Cooper, but I doubt a new manager can fix the Foxes’ defensive frailties overnight.
Forward
Matheus Cunha (£7.0m) – BOU (H)
With seven goal contributions in his last four Premier League games, racking up a whopping 43 Fantasy points, I feel a bit late to this forward pick.
That said, I’m still recommending Matheus Santos Carneiro Da Cunha (let’s stick to Cunha for simplicity) as he faces Bournemouth at home.
Beyond his actual goals, assists, and Fantasy points, his underlying numbers are catching the eye of analytics-focused managers. His 0.65 xGI per 90 is on par with Spurs’ Heung-min Son – very impressive.
He also takes penalties for Wolves, and best of all, he’s priced at a modest £7.0m. Right now, I’d take two Cunhas over one Haaland.
