FPL Gameweek 16 Tips: Pingreen Picks Cole Palmer As Captain

Fantasy football expert Pingreen is back with his Gameweek 16 FPL tips, which include his top captain pick – plus main defender, midfielder and forward options.

FPL Gameweek 16 Tips: Pingreen’s Top Picks

Hello FPL fans! My name is Pingreen, and I’m back to share my top FPL tips for Gameweek 16 and beyond, right here on SportsCasting.

I finished 700th in the world in 2022/23 and ranked 1,330th last season, so make sure you take my advice seriously. As usual, I will be bringing you my captain pick for Gameweek 16 along with a defender, midfielder, and forward pick.

No, I will not be doing a weekly manager pick with the announcement of the new Assistant Manager chip.

Captain Pick – Cole Palmer – £11.1m – BRE (H)

Firstly, I’d like to apologise to anyone who followed my advice and captained Mohamed Salah last week. I consider myself great at FPL, but even I can’t predict games being postponed because of the weather.

Luckily, the game was called off early enough last week that I could switch my captain to Cole Palmer – and this week he’ll be my captain again.

Coming off a 36-point haul against Spurs for those who did captain him, this week the Chelsea star man faces Brentford at home.

Brentford sit 1st in the home Premier League table, but 19th in the away one. They’ve also only kept one clean sheet all season – a perfect fixture for another Palmer haul.

Defender – Lewis Hall – £4.5m – LEI (H)

If you’re going to use the new Assistant Manager chip on the likes of Arne Slot or Pep Guardiola, you’re going to need to free up some funds – and there aren’t many better value picks than Newcastle’s Lewis Hall.

Hall looks to have firmly locked down the left-back spot for Newcastle, starting there in the club’s last 10 Premier League appearances.

He offers more attacking threat than most defenders around that price range, with his 0.18 xGI per 90 equalling the likes of Pedro Porro and Rayan Ait-Nouri. Best of all, his next two fixtures are against newly promoted sides Leicester and Ipswich.

There should be clean sheets there for Newcastle, and potentially some attacking opportunities for the young fullback.

Midfielder – Justin Kluivert – £5.5m – WHU (H)

Coming in with another budget pick, we have Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert as our midfield pick. Manager Andoni Iraola has Bournemouth playing some fantastic attacking football – and attacking midfielder Kluivert has been one of many Bournemouth players to reap the rewards.

Just two weeks ago, he scored a hat-trick against Wolves, all from the penalty spot, but you should know by now that I love a penalty taker.

Even without the penalties, he’s still averaging an impressive 0.40 xGI per 90 this campaign. Facing a woeful West Ham side with a manager that could be sacked at any minute, I think he’s a great option this Gameweek.

Striker – Matheus Cunha – £7.1m – IPS (H)

Wolverhampton Wanderers look pretty awful and are led by another manager who looks to be on the hot seat.

Their striker, however, Matheus Cunha, is anything but awful. Even with his side’s struggles, he still has 10 goal contributions this season, joint 6th highest in the league.

He’s also averaging 0.55 xGI per 90, which beats out most other strikers in the same price bracket like Chris Wood and this Gameweek, the striker has a home fixture against Ipswich Town.

Most of Wolves’ struggles have been at defending goals, with their 23 goals scored so far this campaign actually in the top half of the league.

Ipswich are also woeful defensively, conceding 2.10 xG per 90 this season, second highest in the division. Despite Wolves’ struggles, I think this is a great match-up for Cunha.
